If you have ever liked a fan page or searched a vacation spot while logged into Facebook, you know what it’s like to be bombarded with ads about your searches for months after. The website previously would track user activity and thus give the site the ability to tailor advertisements to a specific user making ad placement more efficient. However, Facebook now is offering the user more control by giving them the ability to give feedback on the advertisements they see. Facebook will now notify you with the reason why they thought the ad would be fitting for your profile based on the activity it sees and you can let the site know whether or not you would like to see more ads like that or if you never want to see that specific advertisement again. Hopefully by giving the user more control the site will serve Facebook users more directly and accurately and advertisers will find that their advertisements are serving an even more efficient purpose. And in essence, Facebook is bringing the democratic process of voting to advertisements on the web- progressive to say the least.
